Studio Diary - 01/08/2001 (Day #2)
Neal Morse:We're here at my house in Nashville rehearsing. 1st day yesterday. Got a late start (of course when Mike P is involved :)) It went pretty well once we got going. It's always a little awkward at first deciding what piece to work on and all, but once we got rolling, things were sounding pretty good. These guys can play , you know. I'm personally thrilled to have everyone here so I can crawl in bed with my family at the end of the day. At the end of the day? No...wait...that's a different band.......
Mike Portnoy:
Day #2 in the bag.......
Very productive day...still in rehearsals at Neal's.
Sabian sent me a pair of 15" hi-hats that I asked for.
I wanted to try them out, go for a big fat Bonham hat sound...
I'm also using my Maple Melody Master...It sounds amazing! And wait until you all see how incredibly cool the finish on it is!!
We continued today where we left off yesterday....
Starting with inserting the verses and B-sections from Neal's original version of "Dance"...no need to intrude on those bits! : )
Then spend most of the day doing alot of re-arranging, adding a bunch of ideas that Roine had demoed in very rough form and writing alot of new parts...
It's sooooo much to remember! I always feel like my brain is gonna *pop* during these crash-course writing sessions!
By the end of the night, we're about 15 minutes into this first piece....(and there's still alot of themes and ideas we're planning on re-visiting)
Nothing but Prog Epics with this group! : )
C-ya tomorrow gang,
MP
